Decorated with medals from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the American Fine Wine Competition and more, Cosentino Winery began its history in 1980 when founder Mitch Cosentino started making wine from small lots in Modesto. Visit this seasoned property -- which is the first winery on the Saint Helena Highway as you travel into town from the south -- and receive:

• A meet and greet with the cellar master Steve Ross and a tour through the barrel room

• A limited-release barrel tasting of boutique, ultra-premium Cosentino wines, such as the 2010 Cosentino Reserve Cabernet (Oakville), sampled from two different barrels to observe the difference between different oaks

• Wine and barrel education session, including a demo on how the oak is selected, prepared and toasted

• Flight of reserve portfolio wines, with options like the limited production 2009 Bacigalupi Chardonnay, paired with a specialty cheese and charcuterie platter
