Vouchers can be redeemed starting Thursday, Sept. 29, through Dec. 31, 2011. To redeem, go to the website listed on the voucher and book a tour using the indicated promo code. Call 707-523-2518 to confirm your trip 24 hours prior to departure. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted on these tours, and those between 12 and 17 must be accompanied by a parent. Tours are subject to availability.
For $19, regularly $39, explore the neighborhoods of New York on foot and gain a new appreciation for the thriving history and culture of the vibrant city. Tour guides, who are often residents of the neighborhoods, will point out some of the most interesting architecture and sites of historical significance and offer tips on where to grab a bite.
Each voucher can be redeemed for one of the following tours and can be used anytime Sept. 29 - Dec. 31. Tours depart daily at the times below:
• New York Village (2-3 hours): Explore New York's counterculture in Greenwich Village, home to famous authors, musicians and artists. Finish the walk at the White Horse Tavern, a classic NY ale house dating back to the late 1800s. Tour meets at Washington Square Arch in Greenwich Village at 2 p.m.
• New York Heritage (3-4 hours): Uncover New York's multicultural heritage as you stroll through the Lower East Side, Chinatown and Little Italy, discovering turn-of-the-century tenements, traditional foods and mob history. Tour meets at 95 E. Houston St. (outside Whole Foods Market) at 9 a.m.
• Harlem Experience (3 hours): Take in the vibrant history of this cultural enclave. Learn about everything from the neighborhood's famous former residents to popular haunts that make the area a New York gem. Tour meets under the Apollo Theatre marquee (235 W. 125th St.) at 11 a.m.
These tours are kept small and intimate, with a maximum size of 12 people per group. Tours fill up quickly and reservations are required.
