The Deal

Paddle down the South Fork of the American River and take advantage of the peak of the rafting season with this Local Deal from Adventure Connection. For $79 per person, the full-day trip is suitable for beginner and intermediate rafters with a mix of Class III rapids, more relaxing stretches and beautiful canyon scenery throughout. This exciting excursion regularly costs up to $160, including all fees.

The day begins with orientation and safety training at the campsite in Lotus, less than 50 miles east of Sacramento. With a guide in the back of the raft, everyone will get to practice paddling in calmer waters before hitting more challenging rapids. Midday, take a break to eat a deli or barbecue lunch along the riverbank before finishing the day's run with the intimidatingly named Satan's Cesspool and Hospital Bar rapids.

The rafting season typically ends in September and begins again in late March/early April, depending on weather conditions; call ahead to confirm availability. Riders must be at least 7 years old.
