The Deal

The "spectacular lake views" are part of why Homewood Mountain Resort is one of Frommer's favorite small ski areas. Ski Magazine calls it a "'local's mountain' where Tahoe residents, as well as well-informed visitors, can ski and ride far away from long lift lines and crowded slopes." Located along the west shore of Tahoe about seven miles south of Tahoe City, Homewood features eight lifts and 64 runs, from beginner to advanced. The ski area covers 1,650 vertical feet of elevation gain, with a base elevation of 6,230 feet. Check out the interactive trail map here.
