Enjoy a full weekend of wine tasting, white-water rafting, camping and more with this exhilarating adventure from Mariah Wilderness Expeditions. For $189 per person, Travelzoo subscribers can go on a two-day, one-night camping excursion with a day of touring El Dorado County wineries and a full day of rafting down 10 miles of American River rapids. This package is regularly $380 and includes a breakfast, two lunches and a barbecue dinner.
• Begin your excursion at 9 a.m., when you will meet your guide to begin the day of wine tasting. Visit three to five boutique wineries in El Dorado County (tasting fees included) and enjoy snacks in between properties provided by Mariah Wilderness.
• After sipping and swirling, savor a leisurely picnic lunch at one of the wineries before heading back to the campground around 4 p.m., which features hot-water showers and toilet facilities.
• Back at camp, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and wine tasting and spend the evening playing volleyball, horseshoes and ping pong, walking the nearby Nature Trail or lounging by the river. Fill up and finish the night with a barbecue steak and chicken feast.
• Day two starts at 8 a.m. with a hot breakfast, typically including pancakes, sausage, fruit, cereal, coffee, juices and more.
• Then head for the river where you will receive a 30-minute rafting orientation before launching from Chili Bar, the top part of the river. The first part of the trip starts off with a bang, passing through rapids such as the Meatgrinder, Race Horse Bend and Triple Threats. At the halfway point, traverse Troublemaker, the biggest rapid on the river, and from there, it's calm waters and scenic views as you float down the remaining five miles.
• The second day finishes with a hearty barbecue lunch back at camp.
