Journey to the scenic Coronado Islands during an eight-hour cruise from Pacific Nature Tours. As this $69-per-person excursion ventures south into Mexican waters and back, a naturalist narrates the sights and the crew supplies breakfast, lunch and late-afternoon snacks. Regularly, this trip would cost $140.
Board the luxury 70-foot boat at 9 a.m. and dine on a continental-style breakfast of fresh fruit, bagels and muffins. Afterward, set sail to spot blue and finback whales. The tour then circumnavigates the four Coronado Islands, which offer up-close views of the elephant seals that inhabit South Island and various species of birds that flock there, including oystercatchers and blue-footed boobies.
Break from sight-seeing for an off-shore lunch, which includes burgers, sandwiches and chips. The tour resumes when the captain heads back out to sea to find more whales, dolphins and sea otters.
The tour ends with late-afternoon snacks before returning to port.
