Originally built in the late 1850s, the plantation is 40 minutes from Baton Rouge and an hour and a half from New Orleans in White Castle, La., and is the largest existing plantation house in the South. A multimillion-dollar renovation has restored the plantation to its original glory -- Fodor’s calls it a “recently renovated stunner” -- with the added bonus of modern amenities including a pool, cabana and tennis courts.
