The Deal

Budding oenophiles can learn about wine, food pairings and the finer points of tasting with this deal from Drinking Outside the Box. For $29 per person, regularly $68, subscribers will hone their knowledge with a class at this Upper West Side spot, which includes tastings of six wines, cheeses and instruction from a professional.

When we visited, we loved the personal attention, interactive quality and fun tips presented in class by wine expert Sarah Newman, a veteran of NYC hot spots like Artisanal Bistro and Felidia. This two-hour course includes:

• Tastings of six wines, including three red and three white selections that vary by class but cover the most popular varietals like riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon

• Cheeses to accompany the wine tastings, with blue, Brie, cheddar and Gouda selections

• Expert instruction, including advice on how to order wine in restaurants and how to pair different varietals with food, accompanied by an instructive pamphlet on the most popular international grape varietals

Classes are limited to 35 students and held in a private studio at the Symphony Space on Sundays at 5 p.m.

Classes are available every Sunday at 5 p.m. and last 2 hours. Limit 1 voucher per person, but 2 additional may be purchased as gifts. Must be of legal drinking age to consume alcohol.
