The Deal

R23 in downtown LA is one of the city's best sushi bars says Los Angeles Magazine, and Zagat celebrates its "delectable sushi with extraordinary Japanese cooking," giving it a "very good to excellent" (25) food rating. Two can visit this acclaimed spot for a four-course dinner with drinks for $69, regularly $116.

The rave reviews continue with Gayot ranking R23 in its Top 10 LA Japanese Restaurants and Frommer's saying it "has been the secret of sushi connoisseurs since 1991." Travelzoo subscribers can peruse the diverse menu with the following courses:

• Two soups, such as tofu or asari clam miso soup (up to $5.50 each)

• Two appetizers, such as baked oysters with spicy mayo sauce or stir-fry shrimp and Japanese red chili peppers in spicy tomato sauce (up to $10 each)

• Two sushi rolls, such as the R23-style crispy rice with spicy tuna and avocado on top of crispy rice with wasabi tartar sauce, or the Spicy Lovers #1, a spicy tuna roll with seared yellowtail and topped with jalapenos (up to $15 each)

• One Chef's Special, such as the grilled black cod marinated in sweet miso or the Kumamoto oysters (up to $15)

• Two dessert mochi ($3 each)

• Pitcher of draft Sapporo ($20 value) or two glasses of house wine ($7 value each)

R23 is not open on Sundays. This deal is only valid on the dishes that are equal to or below the course's respective price caps. No substitutions are allowed. Must be used in 1 visit. Valid for dine-in only. This deal cannot be combined with any other offer. Tax and gratuity are not included; an 18% gratuity based on the full value of the check will be added at payment.
