Originally built in the late 1850s, the property is located in White Castle, La., 40 minutes from Baton Rouge and 1.5 hours from New Orleans. A multimillion-dollar renovation has restored the largest existing plantation house in the South to its original glory -- Fodor’s calls it a “recently renovated stunner” -- with the added bonus of modern amenities including a pool and cabana and tennis courts.

The Mansion Restaurant features classic Creole-inspired Louisiana cuisine such as fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits and a cowboy rib eye. At the end of the day, unwind in a carriage room with a balcony or an upgraded cottage room that boasts period furnishings and a luxurious bathroom.
