As Vermont's Green Mountains rumble through the southern end of the state, they arrive at Ludlow, a "low-key and unassuming" town (per Frommer's) that's home to The Pointe at Castle Hill hotel, where an exclusive package has sent prices down as much as 50%.
Visit Sundays-Thursdays through August for $79 per night. Weekends are $20 more per night and a two-night minimum is required for all Saturdays starting Memorial Day weekend.
Bookings come with a $25 credit toward a 50-minute massage at the full-service Aveda spa and a $25 credit toward a gourmet three-course prix fixe dinner for two at Castle Hill Restaurant -- a wood-paneled dining room in a historic building next door.
The hotel is a ten-minute drive from Okemo Mountain, famous for its slopes during the winter and in summer is crisscrossed with hiking trails, golf courses and zip-lines. The hotel is also within an hour's drive from Manchester, Woodstock, Quechee and Weston, which offer historic town centers and antiquing.
Note: One-night, non-refundable deposit required upon booking. Dining credit will be forfeited on the following dates, when the restaurant is closed: May 3-4; June 1, 15, 21, 22, 27-28; July 5, 12-13, 27; Aug. 17.
