Finding Washington DC Hotel Deals
The political engine that drives Washington, D.C, can also make it an expensive city to visit. Come to town when Congress is in session, and you’ll compete with governors, lobbyists and lawmakers over hotel prices that rise for the occasion. Time your trip to dodge governmental goings-on, and the city can be remarkably affordable. Prices for Washington DC hotels fall significantly on weekends year round, and daily July-August when statesmen take a summer break (there’s no break from the humidity though).

The Metro system in D.C. is famously clean and far-reaching, and an excellent way to avoid what one study in 2015 called the worst traffic congestion in the country. Metro stations generally get you within a couple blocks of the main tourist sites, such as the National Mall, which stretches from the U.S. Capitol building to the Lincoln Memorial. On the way it passes the White House and a dozen other monuments and museums. Many top-ranked museums here have free admission, including the National Gallery of Art and all the Smithsonian institutions such as the National Air and Space Museum.

An affordable alternative when city-center prices peak, hotels in Arlington, Va., sit right across the Potomac river. When the weather agrees, walk the half mile over the Key Bridge to reach the cobbled, leafy streets of historic Georgetown, a neighborhood rich with shopping and lifestyle. Arlington also has Metro service for quick hops into town.
