Both hotels are recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, and are inside Shenandoah National Park, which is 75 miles west of Washington, D.C. Skyland Resort was founded in 1889 and sits at the tallest point of the Blue Ridge Mountains along a scenic tree-lined road. Built in 1939, Big Meadows Lodge is at mile 51.2 of Skyline Drive looking over a grassy meadow.
