Where to Stay in Norfolk

Norfolk is considered the economic and cultural hub of the geographic region known as Hampton Roads. Many tourists travel to Norfolk before heading to the coastal community of Virginia Beach, which is located just east of the historic city. Norfolk itself offers visitors a wide range of entertainment options, including a large maritime museum, a vibrant performing arts scene and dozens of free outdoor events. If you're planning a trip to Norfolk, consider booking reservations at one of the large corporate hotels located near the waterfront. These luxury establishments provide both pleasure seekers and business travelers with a clean and comfortable stay. They also are located within just a short walk from some of Norfolk's main attractions, including the Waterside Festival Marketplace, Town Point Park and the Nauticus, a hands-on maritime science museum. For a unique stay, compare rates at the several boutique hotels located downtown. Many of these specialty accommodations have roots in Norfolk's rich history, which dates back to the early 17th century. If you're looking for budget accommodations, head across the waterfront to the nearby community of Portsmouth. Here, you can find a handful of discount hotels. There are also nearly a dozen cheap hotels located just outside the Norfolk International Airport (ORF). Tourists planning on hitting the beach can book reservations at one of the many exclusive resorts located along the Atlantic Ocean in Virginia Beach.

Norfolk Hotel Tips

From late spring to the early fall, Norfolk plays host to dozens of outdoor festivals, providing locals and visitors alike with more than a hundred days of free entertainment. The majority of these celebrations occur along the waterfront in Town Point Park. Some of the city's largest celebrations include its annual 4th of July event, the Cajun Food Festival and Harborfest, the area's largest annual festival. Harborfest, which spans three days in early June, features a parade of large sailing vessels, food tastings, live concerts and a fireworks display. If you are planning on visiting Norfolk during this popular period, make sure to book your hotel reservations several months in advance.

If you want to find cheap Norfolk flights and hotel rooms, consider a trip outside of this peak season. The late fall and early spring are both good times to schedule a trip to Norfolk. Crowds are less dense, which means popular attractions, like the Hampton Roads Naval Museum are more accessible. Plus, there are also plenty of indoor activities to keep visitors busy in the event of inclement weather. Temperatures during this period usually range from the mid 30s to the low 60s.
