Where to Stay in Nassau
As one of the most popular Caribbean destinations, Nassau has everything you’d expect from a tropical paradise: great beaches, eclectic cuisine and lots of sunshine. The vast majority of tourists stay in one of three areas in Nassau. Because of its prime location off the mainland, Paradise Island offers visitors a wide selection of beautiful island resorts. Beach lovers often choose to stay along Cable Beach, located west of Nassau’s downtown district. Cable Beach is considered to be the most picturesque coast in the area and is also home to the Crystal Palace Casino. Finally, if you want to stay near some of Nassau’s best shops, cafes and restaurants, find a hotel in the downtown district along Bay Street. The Oceanside strip is one of the main attractions for tourists aboard the cruise ships that dock in the nearby harbor.
Nassau Hotel Tips
Nassau has a number of unique resorts that cater to all types of travelers. Golf enthusiasts can find some of the best courses in the Bahamas at the resorts on Paradise Island. Luxurious all-inclusive hotels are also available on Paradise Island as well. Those that like to gamble should compare room rates for the resorts along Cable Beach.
There’s never really a bad time to visit Nassau. The weather is pleasant year-round, though hurricane season from June to November can dampen your stay. Because of its tropical climate, many Americans choose to escape to Nassau during the coldest months, so be prepared to search for affordable accommodations in advance if you’re planning on traveling from December to March. It is also best to search for flights to Nassau early if you plan to travel during peak-season months.
Nassau Hotel Recommendations
If you’re seeking a quiet getaway, consider a stay at Paradise Island Beach Club. This luxury resort hotel provides visitors with both ample privacy and easy access to the city’s best attractions. Get some rest and relaxation on along the resort’s untouched beachfront or get some sun on your private patio. Take a dip in one of two swimming pools, dine at the onsite restaurant or hop aboard the complimentary water taxi to downtown Nassau.
Stay close to the boutiques along Bay Street at British Colonial Hilton Hotel. This upscale facility has the unique distinction of owning downtown Nassau’s only private beach. Other onsite activities include boat rentals, snorkeling and a swimming pool. Dine at the casual Aqua Restaurant or grab a cocktail at the sophisticated Bullion Bar. The hotel also boasts a generous children’s program that allows guests under 18 to stay for free.
If you want access to one of the best casinos in Nassau, search for rooms at the Wyndham Nassau Resort. The resort features the tallest tower in all of Cable Beach, providing visitors with stunning views of the ocean. The hotel features a pool, complete with a swim-up bar, as well as nine separate restaurants and lounges. The hotel’s Vegas-style Crystal Palace Casino features nearly 400 slot machines and a variety of table games. You’ll definitely want to take advantage of the casino’s drink specials, which are some of the best bargains in the area.
You might want to avoid driving around Nassau. Because of its European history, cars drive on the left side of the road, which can disorient many Americans. Fortunately, many of the city’s resorts provide so much onsite entertainment that you’ll only need to leave your hotel on the occasions when you want to do some sightseeing.
In addition, the city does provide public buses. The #10 route is popular among tourists, since it transports riders from Cable Beach to downtown. If you’re staying on Paradise Island, you’ll have to catch a cab or a water taxi, though some hotels offer complimentary transportation to Bay Street.
