Indianapolis Hotel Tips

Indianapolis is known as the world capital of auto racing. The city's Indianapolis Motor Speedway plays host to three major racing events a year, including the famous Indianapolis 500. The race is held annually every Memorial Day weekend. If you're planning on taking part in the event's festivities, make sure you book your hotel reservations far in advance. The race attracts fans from around the world, which means rooms fill up fast.

Throughout the summer, Indianapolis hosts more than a dozen festivals, including a film festival, the state fair, a fringe festival and a rib festival. Although summer is one of the best times to patron the city, you will certainly want to search for flight deals to Indianapolis and hotel specials months ahead of time.

If you're on a budget, consider visiting Indianapolis in the late fall. The weather is usually still agreeable during this period, making it easy to enjoy many of the city's local sites.

Indianapolis Transportation

Indianapolis is a sprawling center with a core downtown and a decentralized system of neighborhoods and suburbs. Because of this, many guests find it easiest to navigate the metro area by car. All major rental agencies have outlets within Indianapolis. The city does have a bus system. Known as IndyGo, many routes travel from the inner city to the outer city. Buses arrive at any given stop about every 30 minutes with an increase in frequency during rush hour. During warm weather, the city is fairly bikeable. Miles of trails make cycling a popular recreational activity, and because of the flat terrain and urban bike paths, maneuvering through the city isn't too difficult. Visitors can also place calls for cabs at their hotels.
