Where to Stay in Atlanta
Atlanta is a sprawling metropolis that provides business travelers and family vacationers alike a rich world of entertainment. Book a luxurious room in high-class Buckhead and walk to some of the world’s biggest names in fashion. If you’re traveling with children, search for hotel deals in Atlanta’s downtown district. This area is a cluster of family-friendly attractions, including the Georgia Aquarium, the Atlanta Zoo and the Imagine It! Children’s Museum of Atlanta. If art is what you’re after, consider a stay in Midtown. This district is home to many of Atlanta’s top cultural attractions, including the Center for Puppetry Arts and the High Museum of Art. It’s also the center of the city’s gay and lesbian communities.
Atlanta Hotel Tips
From the four- and five-star boutique hotels of Buckhead to the national discount chains located throughout the city, you can find comfortable accommodations throughout Atlanta. If you’re looking to spend a little above your budget, compare cheap flights to Atlanta on Delta or AirTrain, both of which use Atlanta’s airport as a major hub.
If you can’t stand the heat, you may want to consider booking your hotel outside of the summer months. Atlanta can get pretty steamy, especially from late May to September. Because the city is home to many Fortune 500 companies, conventions and trade shows occur frequently. Call hotels ahead of time to ensure your planned trip isn’t coinciding with a major conference.
Atlanta Hotel Recommendations
Because of its reputation as a convention town, Atlanta provides business travelers and vacationers with many major hotel chain options. If you want to stay near downtown attractions, search for discount hotel rates at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis or the Ritz-Carlton. For even cheaper rates, consider staying at the downtown Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn or Embassy Suites.
If you want to pamper yourself, make reservations at one of the handfuls of luxurious boutiques in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood. The Mansion on Peachtree is home to the award-winning 29 Spa, which features an extensive selection of personalized spa services. After getting that deep-tissue massage, rest up in your room in front of your 37-inch LCD flat-screen television before heading out to explore the area’s extensive selection of stores and restaurants.
Or book a room at the Hotel Palomar and experience the cultural attractions of Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood. This boutique hotel is both eco-friendly and pet friendly. The hotel provides your pooch in-room food and water bowls and leashes as well as pet sitting, grooming and walking services.
Because of the amount of land the Atlanta area covers, renting a car is probably your best bet for getting around. Several major highways crisscross throughout the metropolis with I-75 and I-85 hitting the middle of the city to create the downtown corridor.
Atlanta also boasts a four-line subway system. Known as the MARTA, travelers can save money on cab fare by taking the Red or Gold Lines from the airport into downtown. The subway makes stops near many of Atlanta’s top attractions, including the High Museum of Art and Lenox Square Mall.
