The Renaissance Dupont Circle is a good-value hotel, conveniently located on the border of Dupont Circle. It’s part of the Marriott chain, but still has a boutique feel with personal touches, such as hot cider upon arrival, an offbeat restaurant and site recommendations from staff (try the International Spy Museum and the Corcoran Gallery of Art). The comfy lobby is a multi-functional space, with free Wi-Fi and a large communal table for meals and catching up on e-mail.
Open from 6-11am, M Brasserie offers a solid list of classics, including fresh fruit parfait, eggs benedict and three choices of pancakes. There’s also an Illy coffee bar in the lobby, and a lunch and dinner menu of sliders, sandwiches and flatbread pizzas is available in the bar. Once a week guests are treated to live entertainment from local D.C. acts, and there’s also a 24-hour gym with weights and exercise machines.
Set a 10-minute walk from Dupont Circle, the hotel benefits from being quieter in the evenings, while still offering easy access to restaurants and nightlife. It’s also within walking distance of Georgetown, with its cobbled streets and boutiques, and it's 10 blocks from the White House -- or 30 minutes on foot, but there are three Metro stations nearby.
Rooms here are small but comfortable and cleverly thought out, with built-in wardrobes, carpeted floors and large windows. Opt for a Club Room for nightly turndown service and access to the eighth-floor lounge (open Sunday evening-Friday morning), where there are free lunchtime snacks, desserts and non-alcoholic drinks.
