Travelzoo Experience: Resort Fees, Well Worth It

One of the most coveted perks at Travelzoo is the Travelzoo Experience, in which Deal Experts and other employees take advantage of the same travel, entertainment and local deals we publish to our subscribers and report back on their experience.

My wife and I were extremely excited to take the Travelzoo Experience so close to home. We actually chose the Cheeca Lodge offer because we had never been to Islamorada, and we had heard many great things about the Cheeca Lodge. When we arrived we found the lodge to be a heavenly oasis; truly, we felt that we were back in Hawaii! We were greeted with Champagne and a couple of chairs while checking in. Although this could seem insignificant, it was a great beginning to our vacation.

Another surprise that we found at the Cheeca Lodge was that the resort fee was actually well worth it!  This is the first time that I didn’t feel taken advantage of by a resort fee.

Normally a resort fee allows you to use the pool, amenities, etc. Well, at Cheeca Lodge the fee includes activities such as playing anytime golf on their executive course, riding bicycles, taking out kayaks, fishing from the pier (including rods, bait, etc), playing tennis, working out in the beautiful fitness center, and even renting movies. They had two Redbox type movie stands in the activity center, and they were free to rent. My wife and I took advantage of the movie rental each night we were on property and found this to be one of the coolest elements that a resort could offer.

Our room was also extremely impressive; it was truly like an apartment, with a full kitchen, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. My favorite part of the room was the rain shower, and my wife’s favorite was the fantastic soaking tub.

The breakfast and lunch were amazing, but the most impressive was the sushi bar that they have.  We were able to sit right at the bar, speak to the Chef and watch as he made the sushi that we ordered.  He provided great recommendations and it was the best sushi I have had, and without a doubt the freshest seafood I have had in Florida.

Each time we go back to the Keys I have a feeling that we’ll be staying here.

Travelzoo Tip: For select dates into June, stays have been discounted by 40%, including one-bedroom suites.
