This trip was not only my first Travelzoo Experience, but also my first vacation in Hawaii. I knew I wanted to use the opportunity to visit somewhere I’ve never been, and Hawaii was the accessible oasis from Los Angeles I desired. Much like the rest of our 25 million subscribers worldwide, I waited anxiously for the perfect trip to arrive in my inbox. I was torn between Maui and Kauai, but when I saw the Marriott Kauai Resort in the Top 20, it was the final decision-maker.
When we arrived, the Marriott shuttle (the island’s only free hotel shuttle) picked us up after waiting mere minutes. Because the resort neighbors the airport on the southeast part of the island, the drive to the hotel lasted about five minutes and meandered us through the resort’s beautiful golf course.
Marriott Kauai Resort is absolutely stunning -- like an immaculately manicured piece of paradise within paradise. It opens up to Kalapaki Beach, one of the world’s best according to Frommer’s, and the massive, heated pool, which poses as the resort’s worthy centerpiece. Other highlights were the spacious, clean, modern rooms; a Japanese garden with a koi pond (you can feed the fish in the morning!); the bevy of restaurants to choose from (including the island’s popular Duke’s); and a complimentary fitness center. This is merely a list of my personal favorites, though.
In addition to visiting a new part of the Pacific, my goal for this trip was to relax and rejuvenate, not fashion a jam-packed schedule. Some of the extracurriculars I did work into the vacation, though, were a zip-lining experience and a trip to the breathtaking Waimea Canyon as well as Wailua Falls. All three provided stunning views of this lush island. Additionally, I would recommend all three to anyone traveling to this island, assuming that person has a manageable fear of heights!
All in all, the trip was amazing -- an incredible experience, and I came home relaxed and revitalized, just as I hoped.
