There’s Money to be Saved With Last-Minute Travel

That’s got to be a myth, right? How can you make a last-minute decision on a getaway and actually save money?

Well, shorter vacations on tighter budgets are fast becoming the norm in travel, and we’re seeing airlines and hotels taking note. It’s certainly not a hard and fast rule, but if you can be flexible about dates and location, you could actually save money over what you’d normally pay. And keep in mind low season for your desired location too, which is when hotels and resorts generally put low rates out because they have plenty of availability.

Here at Travelzoo, we watch for last-minute package deals to places like the Caribbean and Mexico, or price drops on cruises, or simply just great rates at resorts that are a quick drive away. For example, last week we saw a deal for an all-inclusive 4-star resort in Cancun for seven nights, including airfare from Chicago, for just $550. Almost unheard of! Travelers could have paid hundreds more if booking that same trip months earlier. And this week we're loving this $499 deal with seven nights in Punta Cana departing from St. Louis.

Rest assured, if we see an awesome deal, we’ll alert you via our Newsflash product. But, when the weekend’s approaching and you’re jonesin’ to go somewhere, check out Travelzoo’s Last Minute section and you might be surprised at what you can find!
