The hotel deals right now in Hawaii are as good as we've seen in recent years -- even outside of Honolulu and Oahu. Combine that with flight deals from Hawaiian Airlines and other carriers, and the spring and early summer is a great time to get your luau on. We're even seeing more nonstop flights to Kauai, Maui & the Big Island by carriers such as Alaska Airlines.
Go island hopping with these deals:
Kauai: The lush landscape of Hawaii's Garden Isle offers plenty of active fun for travelers. Hike the challenging Kalalau Trail, go cave-tubing, take a boat ride to see the Na Pali Coast (it's only accessible by sea) or visit the colorful Waimea Canyon -- the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Two of the best resorts on the island can be found on the southern tip near Poipu Beach. The luxe Grand Hyatt Kauai is a regular on "best-of" lists, including the coveted Conde Nast Traveler Gold List. It features a pool complex that includes a salt-water lagoon with kayaking. This popular honeymoon spot is available at a rare discount of $249 per night through June 15. Nearby is the Sheraton Kauai, a 4-star resort that's offering 55% off rates throughout the summer.
Maui: It's not hard to be wowed by Maui. Top activities include the road to Hana (wear a seatbelt) and golf on many of the state's top courses. But a favorite "activity" has to be lounging on one of the island's many great beaches -- Waimea or Ka'anapali. This deal offers up a one-bedroom suite right on Ka'anapali for half off regular rates through July 31.
Hawaii: The Big Island is bi-polar -- at least as far as weather goes. The Kona side looks like Mars in places, with red volcanic rock and very little annual rainfall. The Hilo side is one of the rainest spots in the United States and features lush rainforests and waterfalls. Then you've got the mountains -- including Mauna Kea, the biggest mountain in the world (most of it is underwater). And don't forget about that active volcano in the south, Kilauea, which keeps the island growing and provides dramatic views from a sunset cruise. A great way to see it all is a helicopter ride; they aren't cheap, but the island is bigger than you think. In between sight-seeing, relax at the Waikaloa Beach Marriott -- a 4-star resort on the Kohala Coast and save $100 per night through June 15.
Oahu: The easiest -- and often cheapest island -- to visit, this home of Honolulu and birthplace of President Obama offers up the most hotel options in the state. The USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor and a hike up Diamond Head make many to-do lists for travelers, but don't stay stuck in Honolulu. The posh JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa is set across 640 acres on the western shore of Oahu, and provides an escape from some of the hubbub of Waikiki (especially in the 35,000-square-foot spa). Rates at this Gold List resort usually top $400, but stays are discounted as low as $179 per night through July 31. If you want to stay near the action, the Waikiki Beach Marriott is close to the Beach Walk and across the street from the popular Kuhio Hula Mound, with free, hour-long hula performances four nights a week. Stay for just $159 a night through June 30.
So get out your grass skirt and get going to Hawaii in the next few months. These deals expire soon, so don't delay. Mahalo!
