Save Money on Spring Break Airfare
Whether you’re planning a sunny spring break trip, an educational adventure for the kids or taking time off to visit family and friends around the country, there are airfare deals to be found for spring travel. Here are a couple tips for making the most of your travel budget and finding the best flight deals.
- Adjust your travel dates: Be flexible: If you’re traveling this spring, consider midweek flights rather than focusing your search on Friday and Sunday travel days. You can often save as much as 50% on fares by traveling on less popular dates. Also be mindful of holiday weekends -- Easter Sunday is on April 8, so if you’re flying that weekend, try to depart a couple days before or after the holiday to avoid fare increases.
- Know your options: To find the best price, it's essential to compare several airlines. Published sales aren't the only options out there. By searching websites yourself, you often are able to find unadvertised low fares. Check both fares available on online travel agents such as Orbitz and Expedia, as well as airline websites such as American and United, to see all options for your travel dates.
- Try other airports: Sometimes the airport closest to home isn't the one that will bring the best savings. Flying from regional airports may help you get lower fares. And they could even have fewer travelers on these busy days. I live in the Bay Area, and I always check fares departing from both San Francisco and Oakland.
- Jump on a good fare: If you find a good fare, book quickly as they are based on availability. Not only will you grab the low price while it is still available, but you'll save yourself stress by getting plans in place early.
By doing a little extra research, being flexible and booking your Spring Break flights as soon as you’ve nailed down your travel plans, you’ll find the best deal for your trip.
