Free Admission to National Parks, Starting Saturday

National Parks Week -- a nine-day celebration being held April 21-29 --  kicks off on Saturday, and potential visitors from across the country are being asked to "Picture Yourself in a National Park." This year’s programming, in addition to the mainstays of volunteer efforts and Earth Day events, features photo-worthy opportunities at many of America’s most iconic sights.

Entrance fees will be waived at all 397 national parks, and special events from bike tours to art shows will be hosted at the landmarks, historic sites and stretches of protected lands. Nationally, three special days will be held:

  • Saturday, April 21: At Volunteer Day, cleanup efforts will tend to shorelines, battlefields, forests, deserts and more. Parks employees say there are as many ways to help as there are parks themselves.
  • Sunday, April 22, Earth Day: What better day to visit one of the parks? Grab the camera and set off for one of the educational programs and tours or really reconnect with Mother Nature at one of several campsites nationwide.
  • Saturday, April 28: Kids can earn their own official Junior Ranger badge after taking part in educational programs, wildlife walks and more.
