We’ve only got a few weeks left of summer, and I’m trying to avoid the post-season rut by already planning another vacation. My destination wish list is ever-growing, particularly now, as we’ve recently uncovered some great deals at Hilton hotels across the country.
I’ve always wanted to see the Arizona Biltmore, a 1920s hotel built using a Deco-style concrete block construction inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. The hotel has 39 acres of palm tree-studded gardens, a outdoor pool favored by Marilyn Monroe and a championship golf course. It’s also part of this sale, with rates dropping as low as $95 per night.
One block off of festive Bourbon Street, we’ve uncovered a deal at the historic Roosevelt New Orleans hotel that saves as much as 45%. Originally constructed in 1893, this luxurious hotel has welcomed nine presidents, Elvis Presley, and was the home for one of Louisiana’s governors. There is a spa, restaurant and bar on-site, and guests need only to step outside to be surrounded by the French Quarter’s charming architecture and history.
The opening sequence of the original series of “Dallas” was all the younger me needed to become fascinated with the city -- the jubilant music, the sweeping aerial views of the glittering skyline and rambling green pastures. Now I can spend a weekend there while saving as much as $150 with this deal at the Hilton Anatole Dallas, sitting on 45 acres of land in the design district, with a sculpture park, 1,000-piece art collection, and 27th floor restaurant with panoramic views.
Elsewhere in the state, I’ve always wanted to visit San Antonio, with its Venice-by-way-of-Texas River Walk. The Hilton Palacio del Rio sits right on the banks, and has a deal saving up to 35%. The 4-star hotel has terrace gardens and a pool overlooking the walk. Outdoor dining, art galleries, gardens and waterfalls wind their way along the river through the city.
When I lived north of Chicago, I’d always love the car ride along Lake Shore Drive south toward the city, watching the towers slowly rise up into view. Crowning the north end of the Magnificent Mile is the luxurious Drake Hotel, where this deal saves up to 55%. The hotel has elegance in its bones, with a stately position overlooking Lake Michigan and around the corner from some of the fanciest shops in town. Settle in for high tea in the historic Palm Court -- if this were 50 years ago, one of your fellow diners would have been Queen Elizabeth II.
