Explore San Diego’s eight districts on foot with these free tours:
- Walkabout International is a non-profit educational organization that offers more than 100 free guided walking tours of San Diego’s neighborhoods every month. Find a tour that peaks your interest, and simply show up at the specified date and time to join.
- Step back in time to the 1800s with costumed tour guides on a free two-hour tour of Old Town. Starting at the McCoy House, tours depart during the week at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
- iPhone and iPod users can download free walking tours, including the Gaslamp Quarter, Balboa Park and nightlife hot spots.
- Take a self-guided tour through the hometown of Dr. Seuss, the upscale beach town of La Jolla. A calm main street dotted with art galleries and sidewalk cafes which lead down to beach and cliffs. If you feel like splurging, pay the $4 and head into the Sunny Jim Cave, which leads underground through the cliffs out into the ocean.
