This year, as 100 national parks and sites offer free admission for National Parks Week starting Saturday, the focus nationwide is on Healthy Parks, Healthy People. From canoe tours at Congaree National Park in South Carolina and quiet walks through Muir Woods National Monument in California, programs and guided tours will focus on the connection between human and environmental health, according to the National Park Service.
The parks service is asking people to share their experiences on Facebook or Twitter. And for those visitors with Android phones or iPhones, national parks guides from Chimani will be free to download. These apps include guides to Acadia National Park in Maine, Cape Cod National Seashore in Massachusetts, Cuyahoga Valley National Park outside Cleveland, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and Yosemite National Park in California.
