Explore Your City with Local Deals

Although it isn’t official on the calendar yet, winter is here -- days are getting shorter and there’s a chill in the air. This time of year, many of us have a tendency to stay indoors and occupy our time with television and dreams of warmer weather (at least those of us in the north). Sometimes we all need a little motivation to get out there and explore something new in our city. Travelzoo Local Deals are the perfect opportunity to discover a new restaurant or try an activity for the first time.

In many cities around the United States there are so many restaurants to choose from that it’s hard to know where to start. Let our Deal Experts take the guess work out of the process. A few of my favorite restaurant deals from the week include:

  • Chicago, Bice Chicago: The Chicago Tribune calls the atmosphere stylish and comfortable, while Zagat loves the “spectacular” walnut bar
  • St. Louis, Chez Leon: St. Louis Magazine included Chez Leon in its 2010 A-List Awards for Best Romantic Restaurant
  • New York City, Alfama: Two people can sit down to brunch with bottomless drinks at what Forbes calls New York's best Portuguese restaurant

Travelzoo is also offering deals on fantastic activities this time of year. In addition to being great reasons to get out of the house, these deals make great gifts for friends and family:

  • Los Angeles, Gray Whale Watching: Watch for whales as they migrate from Alaska to Mexico, as well as sea lions and other marine life
  • Seattle, Mt. Rainier Snowshoe Tour: EverGreen Escapes is rated 5 stars by TripAdvisor users and was featured in Conde Nast Traveler
  • Austin, Outdoor Ice Skating: Two people can ice skate outside near Lake Travis with hot cocoa through the end of the year
