If you still haven't booked a vacation for this winter, you may be in luck. And people willing to fly on off-peak days during the holidays may find a sale that works for them. Two major U.S. carriers have launched limited-time sales for domestic (and even Caribbean) travel this winter. And these airlines, JetBlue and Virgin, are known for their superior service and value.
First the skinny on the sales: Virgin has some hot coast-to-coast fares, especially to and from top California cities. For example, fly nonstop to Las Vegas from New York, or nonstop to San Francisco from Washington, D.C., for $109 each way.
Not to be outdone, JetBlue has some noteworthy domestic fares in its One Day Only sale, including nonstop flights from New York to New Orleans and Chicago from Boston for $69 each way. To sweeten the deal, JetBlue has included select Caribbean destinations such as Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas ... and, of course, Cancun.
These airlines offer features that savvy travelers love, including in-flight entertainment systems featuring live TV. Plus, on JetBlue, the first checked bag is free; most airlines charge $25 or more per bag.
AirTran also launched a sale, with one-way fares as low as $44 for travel through Feb. 9. Book by Thursday to get these discounted fares to destinations across the country as well as the Caribbean.
