Day Tripping in the Caribbean

In a region of more than 7,000 islands, it’s hard to pick just one. Drop off bags in one of the following destinations and set sail for a change of pace:

Puerto Rico: Get off the urban path and tuck into this 4-star hotel in Fajardo. The ferry ride to Culebra takes a little over an hour … and costs less than US$5 roundtrip. With a much calmer vibe than oft-crowded mainland beaches, once there, grab a cab for amazing snorkeling and kayaking in the calm waters of Playa Flamenco.

St. Lucia: Make a memorable trip from an all-inclusive resort on St. Lucia to the French-speaking island of Martinique. Climb on a high-speed catamaran for a 80-minute journey to the neighboring island. Spend hours exploring the colorful markets of the capital, Fort-de-France, or take a tour of the historic Fort Saint Louis, located on a peninsula a short walk from the terminal.

Turks and Caicos: Flying into Providenciales on a four-night getaway with air affords plenty of time -- and some extra cash – to explore the surrounding islands of the Turks and Caicos. Hop aboard for a 25-minute ride from "Provo" to North Caicos. Stroll along miles of unspoiled beaches and check out dozens of pink birds at the island’s Flamingo Pond Nature Reserve.

Don’t miss the boat these deals and more Caribbean hotels and vacation packages. After all, the water’s warm.
