Close Encounters with the Animal Kingdom

Animal lovers delight -- this week’s Top 20 and Destination of the Week feature wildlife encounters across the globe. From swimming with sea turtles in Barbados to interacting with pandas in China, here are some of the highlights:

Sea turtles: Barbados is Travelzoo’s featured Destination of the Week, and we’ve found three deals that feature the island’s enchanting sea turtles. Stay in a one-bedroom suite or oceanview room for at least half off at resorts that feature guided tours to swim with turtles. Or take a three-hour cruise to snorkel with turtles, and enjoy cocktails while on board.

Horses: Saddle up and enjoy the scenery at a lodge in Colorado, at a 5-star resort in California’s Ojai Valley, or along white-sand beaches at a resort in Cabo San Lucas. Save up to 80% at each of these upscale lodging options and take advantage of on-site or nearby stables.

Pandas: Spend time at the Chengdu Panda Base observing China’s most recognized animal on a nine-night China vacation including flights, hotels, tours and 18 meals.

Tropical fish: Explore life under the sea for a chance to view colorful coral and tropical fish. Take a guided snorkel tour of La Jolla Cove near San Diego, dive the Great Barrier Reef on a cruise excursion or take advantage of free scuba at snorkel clinics at a Waikiki Beach resort.

Glowworms: For a truly out-of-the-ordinary animal encounter, venture underground to see the luminescent glowworms in New Zealand’s Waitomo Caves. This 10-night New Zealand vacation includes all flights, hotels in three cities and a tour of the caves.

Dolphins and whales: Take a three-hour cruise off the New Jersey coast to spot humpback and finback whales, dolphins, turtles and more wildlife for half off the regular cost.
