Visitors to California next month are in for a treat. Turning up its nose at traditional restaurant weeks, Cali -- the whole state -- launches Restaurant Month in January.
The number of participating restaurants is staggering: One could dine his or her way through the state, from frigid Shasta County to sunny San Diego, with nary a regular rate on a receipt.
Here are a few top choices:
Napa Valley: Winner of the Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence, the Siena Restaurant at the Meritage Hotel offer a three-course dinner for $20.11. Wine pairings are $20.11, too.
Santa Barbara: For the ultimate dinner-and-a-movie date, head to the Santa Barbara Film Festival, starting Jan. 27. There, the first-ever Film Feast will feature a host of restaurants with discounted pre-fixe menus. Hotel deals are hard to come by this time of year, but the Oceana is surprisingly on sale.
El Dorado County: In the heart of gold country, progressive dinners (with four courses each by different restaurants) will be served around the county for $55 a pop.
San Francisco: In a town beloved by foodies, the choices are hard to boil down, but Luna Park’s celebrated French-Italian cuisine and hip ambiance stands out. A four-course meal is just $34.95. There are so many choices, it makes sense to stay a while. Some of these offers are only available on certain weeks, and some regions (like fashionably late L.A.) have yet to release their lists.
