With stunning beaches, quaint fishing villages and a bounty of food festivals to choose from, Britain’s southwest coast is the perfect destination for a seafood odyssey. Here’s our pick of the best foodie events in Devon and Cornwall this autumn:
The Newquay Fish Festival runs from Sept. 9-11 and incorporates local chef demonstrations, live cookery, a pilchard BBQ and fish-filleting demos.
Truro is the venue for the Cornwall Food & Drink Festival, taking place from Sept. 23-25. This year the ever-growing festival will continue after sunset with events like the Pasty and a Pint Quiz Night on the 23rd and the Champions’ Night awards bash on the 24th.
The first weekend in October sees the return of the Boscastle Food, Arts & Crafts Festival, showcasing chefs including Nathan Outlaw (recipient of two Michelin stars) from the St Enodoc Hotel in Rock, Paul Ainsworth from Number 6 in Padstow, winner of this year’s dessert course on the “Great British Menu,” and Paul Harwood from Rick Stein’s St Petroc’s Bistro, also in Padstow.
The Falmouth Oyster Festival runs from Oct. 13-16 and is opened by Tim Anderson, winner of BBC’s “MasterChef” 2011. This is the beginning of the oyster season and is a great opportunity to taste the local oysters, renowned for their delicate flavour.
TV presenter Matt Tebbutt and self-confessed greedy TV chef Valentine Warner are among the names appearing at the Dartmouth Food Festival from Oct. 21-23. Expect everything from food stalls to Michelin Meals in Minutes masterclasses.
