Brazil Readies for its Spotlight

Now is the time to explore Brazil, the host of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games, as new renovations, hotels and venues are coming to life. Brazil is one of the rare destinations that’s seeing an economic boom during the global downturn. As such, the local economy is investing major dollars into renovations for hotel, transportation and cruise ports to accommodate the increasing number of tourists.

With world-renowned events -- including the annual Carnival Rio in late February – as well as famous beaches and landmarks such as the Amazon jungle and Christ the Redeemer statue, Brazil has always been an interesting destination, but new renovations will make it even more desirable.

Here are some tips to make your travel there more affordable:

  • If looking to explore several regions of Brazil, plan on taking at least one domestic flight within the country (it is slightly smaller than the United States).
  • Brazil’s national airline, Varig, and TAM Airlines offer air passes for domestic flights. For one flat fee, travelers receive five flight coupons valid for a maximum of 21 days to allow for a flexible flight schedule.
  • Air passes can be purchased once you have arrived in Brazil and have decided how much of the country you wish to explore. However, prices are discounted when purchased as part of the overall ticket price for international flights to Brazil.
  • Bus travel is the most popular and inexpensive way to travel within the country. Unlike other modes of transportation, buses in Brazil offer frequent schedules and cover a lot of terrain. Many can transport you to all the major cities and towns, including right into the heart of the jungle.

One of our favorite Brazil packages right now also includes visits to nearby Argentina. For $1399, visit Rio, Iguazu Falls and Buenos Aires for eight nights in this offer that includes airfare and stays in 4-star hotels. Take advantage of great deal before everyone catches on to this up and coming hot spot.
