The day after Thanksgiving is no longer just for eating turkey leftovers, putting up Christmas decorations and battling fellow shoppers for Black Friday bargains at the mall. Travel companies are catching on with their own Black Friday sales. The best part -- you don't need to get up at 4 a.m. to take advantage.
Here are a few of the sales available on Black Friday:
CruCon Cruise Outlet launched an aptly named Day After Thanksgiving Sale -- with hundreds of 2011 cruises on sale with extras like on-board credit and reduced deposit. Seven-night Caribbean cruises start at $349 per person.
Cruise.com has its own Black Friday Sale, with reduced prices and extras like prepaid gratuities on cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Oceania.
For a last-minute deal, the Italian cruise line MSC Cruises has a two-for-one offer on sailings Nov. 28, Dec. 5 and 12. Two people can sail for $529 total ($264.50 per person) before taxes.
For a vacation deal, Funjet has nine destinations on sale -- with a three-night Las Vegas vacation starting at $174 per person and a 4-star getaway to the all-inclusive Iberostar Quetzal in Riviera Maya for $399 per person. Nonstop flights to Mexico and the Caribbean are also on sale. This sale ends Nov. 28.
Gate 1 Travel is offering a discount of $50-$500 on vacation packages booked on Black Friday. The discount depends on the price of the vacation. Use promo code BLACKFR50 when you spend $500 or more; BLACKFR100 for $1,000; BLACKFR250 for $2,000; or BLACKFR500, for $4,000 or more.
Plenty of hotels have gotten into the Black Friday game -- some in very creative ways.
InterContinental Hotels Group -- which includes Holiday Inn, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and other hotels around the world -- is offering a deal via its Twitter feed @IHG_Deals. Registration is required, but after signing up and booking a weekend night between Nov. 1, 2010, and April 30, 2011, members are eligible for a $50 flight credit.
Another major sale comes from Shell Hospitality, with resorts from Hawaii to Napa Valley to Arizona. Save up to 50% on these resorts, if booked before midnight on Nov. 29. Click on the "Black Friday is Live" link and choose an individual resort to see the offer.
The Sonesta Collection -- with hotels in Boston, Orlando, Miami and New Orleans, as well as St. Maarten and South America -- has put its hotels and resorts on sale at up to 50% off for two-night stays through Dec. 31, 2011. Use promo code "BF10" to snag this deal through Monday.
For one day only, Warwick International Hotels is offering 30% off the best available rate at its hotels -- including the brand's New York City property in Midtown, four other U.S. locations and dozens more in Europe & Asia. Use code "WKBLK" when booking for stays from Dec. 1 to Feb. 28, 2011.
Stay longer and save more at Kimpton's Hotel Solamar in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. For stays between Nov. 29 and Dec. 27, the following discounts are available: Save 15% on a one-night stay, 20% on two nights, 30% on three nights and 50% on stays for four nights or more. Use code "BLACK" when booking. The offer ends Monday.
