Alternative Spring Breaks in the Northeast

Instead of heading south for spring break, try some alternatives in New England. As warm weather approaches rates are still low at hotels throughout the Northeast. Avoid paying the prices in Florida or the Caribbean and instead relax in the comforts of an upscale property in Rhode Island or Boston.

Choices range from skiing, cooking classes and even splashing around at an indoor waterpark. Here are some of our favorite “alternative” spring break options:

  • Essex Resort and Spa in Vermont -- For $99 per night, unwind at a 4-Diamond resort that offers cooking classes, spa services and discounted skiing at nearby Smuggler’s Notch.
  • Six Flags Great Escape Lodge in Queensbury, New York -- Four daily passes to a 38,000-square-foot indoor waterpark, plus accommodations are going for just $99 per night.

If history and sightseeing is more appealing, consider one of these offers:

  • Hyatt Regency Newport in Rhode Island -- Enjoy the harbor, relax in the spa or tour gilded age mansions in the area. This upscale hotel slashed rates to $99 per night and threw in a waterview room upgrade and 20% spa discount. Prices during the summer can jump up to $350 per night.
  • Wayside Carriage House Inn in Massachusetts -- Become immersed in historic Sudbury, 20 miles from Boston, for $89 per night. This offer cuts 50% off the current rates at this new property, just down the road from one of the oldest inns in the United States, constructed in 1716. Historic places in the area include sites of Revolutionary War battles.
