All-Inclusive = All-Value
Summer is the season for hot vacation and hotel deals in Mexico and the Caribbean. Resorts that charge $300 or more per night during the winter months now have deals at 50% or more off of those peak rates.
When looking for a deal in Mexico or the Caribbean, all-inclusive resorts often will have a higher per-night price -- the price is listed per person, based on double occupancy – but when adding it all up, these resorts often are a better value.
Some things to ask yourself when planning:
- Do I like surprises? Because almost everything is included upfront -- from meals and drinks to taxes and gratuities -- there’s no sticker shock. Even the “resort fee” we see more and more at hotels for things such as free Internet access and beach towels is already wrapped in. It’s easier to stay within a prepared budget for your trip this way.
- How hungry am I? Most all-inclusive resorts offer unlimited meals and drinks with a mixture of a la carte and buffet restaurants to choose from during your stay.
- How adventurous will I be? One of the perks of an all-inclusive resort is that often you don’t have to leave the resort, exchange currency, get a rental car, navigate foreign streets, etc. You can go straight from room to beach to restaurant and back, making for a very relaxing vacation. Some resorts even have 24-hour room service so you don’t even need to leave the room and swim-up bars so you don’t need to get out of the pool.
- Am I traveling with kids? All-inclusive resorts can be a great deal when traveling with children, as many will let kids younger than a certain age stay and eat free or at a reduced price. By the same token, if you’re looking for a more subdued, laid-back vibe, look for an adults-only all-inclusive resort, or one with an adults-only area of the resort.
