Five-time Grammy-winning soprano Kathleen Battle takes the stage to perform "Underground Railroad," and select seats are 50% off. The LA Times calls the singer "a beautiful woman with a lyric voice of pure silver and lively stage presence."

Discounted tickets for the concert on Saturday, May 18, at 8 p.m., at The Music Center at Strathmore are available in the following sections:

  • Grand Tier Rows C-G) and Upper Tier Boxes ... $32.50 (reg. $65)
  • Grand Tier (Rows A-B), Grand Tier Boxes (5-12) and Promenade (Rows F-J) ... $37.50 (reg. $75)

Pianist Cyrus Chestnut will accompany Battle for the concert of African-American songs and spirituals. According to the Washington Examiner, "the songs she sang captured the plight, faith, fervor and perseverance of a people on a journey to freedom."

Travelzoo Tip: Don't miss a free pre-concert lecture, "Freedom Songs' Journey to the Concert Hall," at 6:30 p.m. in the Education Center at the Strathmore. The discussion will be led by Howard University’s Dr. Saïs Kamalidiin.
