Baseball. America's pastime is a Chicago summer tradition. Catch the Cubs at Wrigley Field or the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
Architecture. Don't forget to look up: Summer is the best time to join an architectural boat tour on the Chicago River. Or, for as little as $3 per person, hop on a water taxi for dramatic views minus the narration.
Art Institute. The Modern Wing section of The Art Institute of Chicago is an architectural marvel that opened this year to critical praise. Avoid the $18 admission during Target Summer Free Evenings.
Navy Pier. Touristy? Yes. But even locals will admit that the Ferris Wheel, fireworks and Coney Island-esque flavor of Navy Pier are great in summer.
