Quick Travel Guide to TampaThe city of Tampa itself is relatively small, so if you’re planning on a longer stay, you may find yourself venturing out into the Tampa Bay Area quite a bit. The area includes the bustling city of St. Petersburg to the southwest, and beach-goers are likely to make several trips due west to the barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico. Conveniently connected to the mainland by a series of bridges, these ten sandy islands off the Pinellas County coast offer some of the most picturesque views and cleanest beaches in the region, as well as the greatest concentration of resorts and hotels. But if you book your Tampa hotel within the city limits, you’ll have convenient access to a completely different scene. Ybor City, a historic Tampa neighborhood that has been transformed into a thriving nightlife district in recent years, features dozens of live music venues, dance clubs, memorable taverns and late-night eateries. During the day, consider a trip to MOSI, Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry, where you’ll gain a new appreciation for the power of destructive weather in the famous Disasterville exhibit. You can even traverse the museum on a high-wire bicycle suspended 30 feet above ground. |
