With the exception of the resort community of San Jose del Cabo to the northeast, Cabo San Lucas is essentially in the middle of nowhere, with seemingly endless sand dunes to the north and crystal waters to the south. There are no museums to explore or trains to catch, and unless you’ve booked a fishing excursion or tee time, you’re free to do as you please with no pressures. When the sun is up, most visitors pack their days with surfing, snorkeling, sunbathing and fighting the powerful marlin swimming all along the coast. And when the sun goes down, it seems as though the entire town prowls the main strip, dancing and drinking in local clubs for hours and maintaining Cabo’s legendary reputation for rowdiness.

If you’re an angler and think you’ve got what it takes to participate in the biggest marlin fishing tournament in the world, plan far in advance to come to Cabo in October for the annual Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament. If you’re not that competitive, you’ll find it easy to arrange sports fishing outings any other time of the year at reasonable rates, including equipment rental.
