Cheap Flights to Reykjavik

If you want to experience one of the most unique cultures and landscape on earth, book a trip to Reykjavik. The Scandinavian city is the urban heart of Iceland as well as the epicenter of the country's tourism industry. Business travelers will likely spend much time in Borgartun, the city's financial center. This commercial district is home to a number of regional and international companies and banks. Night owls will want to grab a drink in the Laugavegur area of downtown. By day, this charming area claims some of the best shopping throughout the city. By night, the streets fill with revelers who frequent the neighborhood's many nightclubs and bars, many of which stay open until the early hours of the morning on the weekends. Sightseers will find no shortage of landmarks and museums to patronize. The Blue Lagoon, located 24 miles outside of Reykjavik, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. Here, you will find one of the most beautiful natural spas in the world. Visitors can take a swim in the warm waters, which reach temperatures of 100 degree. Or check out the Reykjavik Art Museum, the largest visual art facility in Iceland. You can search for discount flights to Reykjavik using Travelzoo's SuperSearch.

Which Airlines Fly to Reykjavik?

The Keflavik International Airport (KEF) is the Reykjavik's only international airport. The city does, however, claim a second, domestic airport known as Reykjavik Airport (RKV). The airport is a hub for both Icelandair and Iceland Express. The only domestic carrier to offer direct flights to Reykjavik is Delta, which flies out of New York.

You can buy airfare from Chicago on Iceland Express. The Icelandic carrier also offers plane tickets from Orlando and Newark. You can compare ticket prices from Boston on Icelandair, which also provides flights out of New York, Seattle, Minneapolis, Orlando, Toronto and Washington, D.C.

Quick Travel Guide to Reykjavik

Begin your journey through Reykjavik and Iceland's surrounding territory with a trip to Old Town. This district is the city's historic center and features of a number of culturally significant landmarks as well as some interesting examples of local architecture. Here, you will find the Culture House, a grand museum that houses Iceland's most cherished national treasures. Old Town is also home to historic houses, many of which are still in use today as cafes and restaurants.

Visit Reykjavik's acclaimed Laugardalur Park. This large urban park is a great place to take in the natural scenery or enjoy a picnic. Here, you will also find the city's botanical gardens. Known as Grasagarour, the gardens are free to enter and contain a large collection of lush flora. A great place to take the kids is the park's Farm Animal Park. This small zoo houses such animals as reindeers, cows and goats. Afterward, visit Family Park where adults and children alike can enjoy a number of rides and games.

Visitors take some time to walk around Tjornin, the small lake located in Reykjavik's city center. Along the shores of this famous natural body of water is the city's majestic City Hall. Ducks, geese and swans frequent the lake.

The large facility contains, among other things, restaurants, a library, a movie theater and a pub. Or check out Kolaportid Flea Market.
