Located in the south of Thailand, the island of Phuket is a beautiful, beach-filled getaway. This resilient tourist town suffered great tragedy in 2004 when it was struck by a devastating tsunami. Despite the destruction, the city has bounced back and continues to welcome pleasure seekers from across the world to its world-renowned shores. Phuket is served by Phuket International Airport (HKT). Although no direct flights from the U.S. are currently available, travelers can find direct airfare to Bangkok (BKK) on Thai Airways International. Although Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, it’s still relatively small. It’s only about 30 miles from top to bottom and 13 miles across. For visitors, this means you don’t have to worry about creating itineraries and rushing to see all the sights. Instead, you can just spend your vacation relaxing underneath the warm Southeast Asian sun.

And what better place to relax than one of Phuket’s most popular beaches, Karon Beach.
