Cheap Flights to Nantucket

Located 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Nantucket Island offers visitors a peaceful harbor getaway, relaxing beaches, elegant mansions and a stunning natural landscape. The island is a popular summertime tourist destination, attracting tens of thousands of vacationers every year. Family travelers will want to visit Children's Beach. An easy walk from town, this beach specifically caters to small children with its parks, playground and picnic tables. History buffs can explore the island's many historic sites. In fact, Nantucket Island itself is designated as a National Historic Landmark, making it the largest historic district in the contiguous U.S. Notable sites include the island's three centuries-old lighthouses—the Nantucket Light, the Sankaty Head Light and the Brant Point Light. The island also boasts a vibrant arts scene serving as a hub for the visual and performing arts. There are also several world-class museums located on the island, including the Whaling Museum, which documents the area's history as a popular whaling site.  Hikers, cyclists and nature enthusiasts should reserve time to explore Nantucket Island's national protected areas, which include a barrier beach, a large swamp and a range of peaks known as Popsquatchet Hills. Visitors will find exclusive Nantucket hotels, inns and guesthouses on the northern part of the island near the main beaches. This area is also a hub for the island's restaurant, shopping and nightlife scene. You can search for cheap flights to Nantucket Island using Travelzoo's SuperSearch.

Which Airlines Fly to Nantucket?

The Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK) serves Nantucket Island and is the second busiest airport in the state of Massachusetts. The small facility receives flights from several carriers, most of which provide seasonal service. You can buy airfare from New York on JetBlue Airways. Or compare plane tickets from Boston, Martha's Vineyard, Providence and other nearby cities on Cape Air.  Nantucket Air provides service from the Barnstable Municipal Airport (HYA) in Hyannis on Cape Cod.

Nantucket Flight Tips

Alternatively, visitors can search for discount flights to Provincetown, a popular resort city located at the tip of Cape Cod. Cape Air provides direct flights to Provincetown from Boston. Travelers can rent a car and drive south for an hour to Hyannis. From here, you can either catch a flight or take a ferry across the Nantucket Sound. Or compare low-priced airfare to Providence, which is only an hour-and-a-half away from Hyannis.

Quick Travel Guide to Nantucket

Begin your trip to Nantucket Island by getting acquainted with the area's beautiful landscape. Located just northeast of the city of Nantucket is the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge. This natural area features 16 miles of trails and sand roads for hiking and over-sand vehicles. The area is also a popular fishing and bird watching destination and is home to the Great Point Lighthouse, which was originally built in 1784. Another scenic natural area is Squam Swamp, a large swamp located on the northeast part of the island just south of the wildlife refuge. The swamp features an abundance of native plants and animals as well as a 1.7-mile long walking trail. Or rent a kayak and row through Hummock Pond on the south side of the island.

Golf enthusiasts will want to hit one of the handfuls of championship courses located throughout the island. The Sankaty Head Golf Club on the eastern portion of the island features a picturesque, award-winning course. From the ninth hole, players can view the iconic Sankaty Head Lighthouse. It is one of the only courses to provide links-style golf outside of the U.K. Other Nantucket golf facilities include the Siasconset Gulf Club, the Miacomet Golf Club and the Nantucket Golf Club.

Swimmers and beach bums will want to visit the island's north side beaches, which sport calmer, warmer waters than the beaches on the south side. Located just north of downtown Nantucket, Jetties Beach is reachable by bike, car and shuttle bus. The beach features lifeguards, showers, a playground and volleyball nets. Kayak, windsurfing and sailboat rentals are available as well. Or head to Brant Point located east of the city of Nantucket. With its strong current and lack of lifeguards, it is not the best beach for swimming. However, it is one of the most scenic beaches on the island and is home to the Brant Point Light.

For shopping, visit downtown Nantucket's Main Street. This strip features many upscale apparel and jewelry boutiques as well as a good selection of antique and gift shops. In the evening, enjoy the refreshing Atlantic air while strolling down the pedestrian-friendly streets, dine at one of the many seafood eateries or grab a cocktail at a cozy pub.
