Cheap Flights to Helena

Helena is the capital of Montana and serves as one of the state's main urban and cultural hubs. Founded in 1864, the city of about 30,000 came into being after the discovery of gold in a nearby gulch. Today, Helena's main street, Last Chance Gulf, serves as a reminder of this gold-rush past. The city's official symbol, a wooden watchtower known as the Guardian of the Gulch still stands atop Tower Hill and is visible from the historic downtown district. Helena boasts several examples of unique architecture. Its Saint Helena Cathedral is an amazingly ornate structure that dates back to the early 20th century. Another interesting building is the Helena Civic Center. Originally built as a Shrine temple in 1920, the edifice utilizes elements of Moorish architecture. As the seat of Montana's government, Helena claims many government offices. Visitors can tour the state capitol building, whose interior features a massive rotunda painted in gold. Art fans can patron the various exhibition spaces and galleries throughout the town, including the Holter Museum of Art. The regional contemporary art museum houses five exhibition galleries, and showcases works by local, regional and international artists. History buffs can check out one of several history-related institutions, including the Montana Military Museum, the original Governor's Mansion and the Montana Historical Society.
