Why Fly to Fort Lauderdale?

Fort Lauderdale has long held the reputation as one of the nation’s Spring Break capitals. Although the south Florida city is still a mecca for young vacationers, it increasingly is catering to a slightly older, more professional demographic. High-rise hotels with lavish amenities sit along beautiful sandy beaches, while swank martini lounges and wine bars provide nighttime entertainment. And because the city is such a popular vacation destination, you won’t be too hard-pressed to find cheap flights online or hotels deals in Ft. Lauderdale.

If you like to stay busy, Fort Lauderdale certainly has no shortage of attractions for every type of traveler. Sail through the city’s canals, place bets at the city’s racetracks and casinos and browse the many boutique shops and antique stores.

Which Airlines Fly to Fort Lauderdale?

The Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL) services the Ft. Lauderdale area. Search for discount airfare on Spirit Airlines, which uses the airport as a hub. If you’re flying in from the Midwest, you can frequently buy low-priced flights through AirTran and Southwest. West Coasters should compare ticket prices for Delta and JetBlue. Other airlines that service FLL include Continental, American, US Airways and Virgin.

Quick Travel Guide to Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is a beach bum’s dream-come-true. The city boasts 23-miles of picturesque beachfront, most of which is just steps from hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. Grab a good book and head out to Hillsboro Beach. This sandy escape has a reputation for being one of the quietest beaches in the Fort Lauderdale area. If you’re traveling with children, drive the kids north to Deerfield Beach. This family-friendly destination is home to several water parks, including 430-acre Quiet Waters Park, which features an interactive water playground.

If you’re looking to liven up your night, head downtown to Las Olas Boulevard. The one-mile commercial strip is Ft. Lauderdale’s hotspot for trendy bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Once the sun comes up, take some time to explore the local boutiques and art galleries that dot the main street.

For those that like to hedge their bets, head just outside Fort Lauderdale to Coconut Creek Seminole Casino. Open 24 hours, this casino claims more than 1,500 Vegas and bingo-style slot machines. There’s also a poker room, and an onsite lounge that features live entertainment six days a week. If you’re in town between the months of January and April, spend a day at the races at Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino in nearby Hallandale Beach. The facility features live horse racing in addition to the usual slot machines and table games.
