Grab a good book and head out to Hillsboro Beach. This sandy escape has a reputation for being one of the quietest beaches in the Fort Lauderdale area. If you’re traveling with children, drive the kids north to Deerfield Beach. This family-friendly destination is home to several water parks, including 430-acre Quiet Waters Park, which features an interactive water playground.
If you’re looking to liven up your night, head downtown to Las Olas Boulevard. The one-mile commercial strip is Ft. Lauderdale’s hotspot for trendy bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Once the sun comes up, take some time to explore the local boutiques and art galleries that dot the main street.
For those that like to hedge their bets, head just outside Fort Lauderdale to Coconut Creek Seminole Casino. Open 24 hours, this casino claims more than 1,500 Vegas and bingo-style slot machines. There’s also a poker room, and an onsite lounge that features live entertainment six days a week. If you’re in town between the months of January and April, spend a day at the races at Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino in nearby Hallandale Beach. The facility features live horse racing in addition to the usual slot machines and table games.
