The home is owned by the City of El Paso and hosts several special events throughout the year.

Located in central downtown just a few blocks from San Jacinto Square is the Plaza Hotel. The historic property, which opened to the public in 1930, was the Hilton's first high-rise hotel. The 19-story building was designed in the Art Deco style and remains the third-tallest building in the city. Just west of the hotel is the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center. This multi-use facility has recently undergone renovations and, today, features 17 state-of-the-art meeting rooms, three halls, 80,000-square feet of exhibit space and two spacious lobbies. The venue frequently hosts banquets, conferences and trade shows.

Nearby the convention center is the El Paso Museum of Art. The museum is well known for its impressive collections of European, Mexican and Southwestern art. The museum also has examples of Pre-Columbian pieces, contemporary art and photographs.

If you want to experience El Paso's natural landscape, head northwest of downtown to the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens. Located on the grounds of the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso, the desert garden boasts more than 600 species of native plants. After walking through the garden's grounds, visit the Centennial Museum, which was El Paso's first museum. The institution focuses on the natural and cultural history of the Chihuahuan Desert region.
