Cheap Flights to Bridgetown

Decades after the former British colony island of Barbados won its independence, tourism overtook sugar plantations and rum distilleries as its major industry. Today, Barbados and its capital of Bridgetown lure in thousands of visitors with sparkling beaches, endless duty-free shops, carefree calypso music and an alluring Caribbean atmosphere with a distinctly British twist. Cheap flights to Bridgetown are available even during peak season if you book in advance; start searching and comparing fares online now.

Which Airlines Fly to Bridgetown?

Flights into Barbados arrive at Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), situated about eight miles east of Bridgetown on the island’s south coast. Though not a particularly busy airport, you can catch several daily flights onto the island from more than 30 cities in North America, the Caribbean and Europe.

Direct flights from New York are available through discount carrier JetBlue as well as American Airlines, which also flies direct from Miami.

Atlanta, Charlotte and Toronto also support nonstop routes to Barbados via Delta, US Airways and Air Canada.

Bridgetown Flight Tips

Flights are most expensive and crowded during Bridgetown’s high season, which lasts from approximately mid-December to mid-April. You can fly and stay for less during the summer months, but keep in mind that many hotels, restaurants and attractions close in early fall and don’t re-open again until December.

Quick Travel Guide to Bridgetown

Barbados is the easternmost island in the Caribbean, and while it stands out among its neighbors for a variety of distinctions, its British heritage is what makes many Bajan experiences so memorable. In the midst of palm trees and cloudless afternoons, you can still find a great plate of fish and chips or take time for a traditional high tea.

Barbados is also set apart from many surrounding islands because of the sheer size of its cruise ship port. The substantial investment in the port has paid off, as Bridgetown is one of the busiest cruise stops in the Caribbean, but even if you aren’t setting sail, you should stop by and browse through the dozens of duty free stores stocked with international bargains and local handicrafts.

For many travelers, the hotels in Barbados are what bring them out in the first place. World-class amenities and unbelievable ocean-view rooms at Cobblers Cove Hotel, the Coral Reef Club and other Bajan resorts are well worth the trip, whether you’re embarking on your dream honeymoon or just getting away to relax and unwind. You can enjoy a memorable vacation without venturing farther from your resort than its postcard beach, but if you discover the urge to explore, you’ll find fun in just about every corner of the island.
