Why Fly to Acapulco?Even predating its 1950s heyday, when Hollywood celebrities flocked there for a little R&R, Acapulco was a burgeoning Mexican resort town. Its idyllic bay, pristine beaches and devil-may-care nightlife made it a natural vacation hotspot, and those attributes continue to serve as Acapulco’s main draws. Cheap flights to Acapulco and great deals on waterfront resorts can be found even during the peak tourism season, so if you’re seeking a sunny beach escape on a tight budget, you can make it happen here. Most visitors like to take things slow while in Acapulco, savoring the hot beach scene, sizzling cuisine and equally scorching nightlife. But if you’d rather keep moving, the town and its surrounding mountains and forests offer much to explore.
Which Airlines Fly to Acapulco?Acapulco’s incoming flights arrive at General Juan N. Alvarez International Airport (ACA), the busiest air gateway into Mexico’s Southern Pacific region. Direct flights from Houston are available via Continental and nonstop flights from Phoenix are offered by US Airways, but other direct routes are seasonal, operating between mid-autumn and late spring. These include flights from Chicago and Dallas via American and flights from Newark with Continental.
Popular Acapulco Flight RoutesAcapulco Flight Tips Most indirect flights from U.S. cities to Acapulco will connect in Houston or Mexico City; in the case of the latter, connections will involve transfers to a Mexican airline like Aeromar or Aeromexico.
Quick Travel Guide to AcapulcoFor some visitors, particularly those who opt to stay in the more extravagant resorts on the south side of Acapulco Bay, it’s the hotel accommodations and amenities that bring them all the way to Mexico’s Southern Pacific Coast. Tranquil spas, gourmet room service and exceedingly capable concierges are hallmarks of the finer hotels in Acapulco. Many of these bay shore resorts have so much to offer that you can enjoy an exciting and memorable vacation without leaving their grounds. Your days don’t have to be filled with leisure and luxury, however. If you want to see the sights, the best way to start is with the magnificent show provided by the La Quebrada Cliff Divers, who dive from the La Quebrada Cliffs at heights sometimes exceeding 100 feet into a small, shallow sea gulch below. You can see this daredevil display from a nearby public viewing area, but if you book a room at the nearby El Mirador Hotel, you may witness it from your own balcony. For a taste of the city’s history, consider a visit to Fuerte de San Diego, the fort erected to repel pirate assaults in the 1600s. In addition to the historic ruins that remain, this is also where you’ll find the Acapulco Historical Museum, which chronicles the region’s past from its tribal roots to its most recent history. |
