For some visitors, particularly those who opt to stay in the more extravagant resorts on the south side of Acapulco Bay, it’s the hotel accommodations and amenities that bring them all the way to Mexico’s Southern Pacific Coast. Tranquil spas, gourmet room service and exceedingly capable concierges are hallmarks of the finer hotels in Acapulco. Many of these bay shore resorts have so much to offer that you can enjoy an exciting and memorable vacation without leaving their grounds.  
A little farther north, in the heart of Acapulco but still near the bay, the big attraction is the legendary nightlife. Clubs open late, but the party rages until the wee hours of the morning, luring in the young and the young at heart. During the daylight hours, the beaches in this district teem with sun worshippers, and lazy days are well-spent on its sandy strips.

Your days don’t have to be filled with leisure and luxury, however. If you want to see the sights, the best way to start is with the magnificent show provided by the La Quebrada Cliff Divers, who dive from the La Quebrada Cliffs at heights sometimes exceeding 100 feet into a small, shallow sea gulch below. You can see this daredevil display from a nearby public viewing area, but if you book a room at the nearby El Mirador Hotel, you may witness it from your own balcony.

For a taste of the city’s history, consider a visit to Fuerte de San Diego, the fort erected to repel pirate assaults in the 1600s. In addition to the historic ruins that remain, this is also where you’ll find the Acapulco Historical Museum, which chronicles the region’s past from its tribal roots to its most recent history.
