Hailed as "one of the best diving spots in the world" by Frommer's, the Japanese archipelago of Okinawa also is renowned for its historic sites, tropical weather and laid-back island atmosphere.

Sample these lesser-known islands for $2717 (£1760) per person, roundtrip from Tokyo, with this deal from InsideJapan Tours.

Saving $230 on the regular rate, this deal for a land-only vacation is ideal for combining with a few nights in Tokyo.

The deal is valid for tours throughout the year and includes:

  • 12 nights accommodation between Tokyo and the Okinawa region (a combination of beach cottages, business hotels and resorts)*
  • Daily breakfast
  • All intra-country flights in Japan
  • Airport transfers
  • Meet and greet upon arrival
  • Full-day nature tour on Iriomote Island
  • Tokyo transport card with $27 (JPY2,500) of credit
  • InsideJapan Tours' information pack

Beginning in Tokyo, the tour takes travellers to the old Asakusa district, known for the Sensoji temple and the shops of Nakamise Dori. Then trade the fast-paced city for rural Okinawa islands. Embrace traditional Ryukyu island life on water buffalo-drawn carts in Taketomi island. Guests will kayak through jungles on a guided tour of Iriomote -- the least-inhabited island of the Yaeyamas.

In Naha, visit the Shuri Castle and lively Kokusai Dori shopping area. Snorkeling and white sand beaches await on Zamami, the last stop before heading back to Tokyo.

Availability is limited on April 27 - May 7; Aug. 2-16; Dec. 20-31.

Book by April 30.
